Astronomy: Formation of stars in DR21

This closeup infrared photo from the Spitzer Space Telescope shows the cloud DR21 with newborn stars. It is located approximately at 6.000 light years, near Cygnus and spans 75 light years.

The cloud contains huge bubbles which are a complex mixture of gas, dust and very massive stars. The patterns are caused by interactions between interstellar winds, radiation pressure, magnetic fields and gravity.
