M22 is the twentysecond of Charles Messier's list of bright diffuse objects in the sky.
The globular cluster M22 contains over 100.000 stars. These stars were formed together and are gravitationally bound. The stars orbits the center of the cluster, and the cluster itself orbits the center of the Milky Way Galaxy.
Globular clusters are very old; this cluster nearly matches the 13.7 billion year old age of the Universe.
